Colin Levy's The Secret Number is another excellent example of an independent fantasy short movie. The film tells of a man that discovers a mysterious equation which allows him to predict his future. Even though the film is short 15 minutes, it creates a powerful story that questions fate and free will. The film is well-crafted with clever visual effects, and strong performances by the central actor to keep viewers on their feet.

Independent fantasy short films offer the opportunity to experiment with various styles and techniques. Filmmakers are often forced to use limited budgets in order to make these films. This can result in some truly original and innovative films.

Joshua Weigel's The Butterfly Circus is an example. The film is about a man with no arms and legs who joins an freaks circus and learns to love his differences. Although it is only 20 minutes in length, the film uses powerful visuals and a central performance to tell a story about self acceptance.
